Director's Letter | New home update!

It brings great joy to my heart to finally announce that we have found a place to call our own. The process has been long and sometimes felt like an impossible task but at long last!

Our new home is located at 366 Adelaide Street East, unit 120. It is a beautiful heritage building that while not entirely perfect for a dance studio, it called me since the day we stepped foot in it. We will have our own private entrance and some of the amenities include a beautiful courtyard and a sushi cafe. One of the other tenants is a physiotherapy practice (which some of you might know very well).

To be completely honest, sometimes, this task feels so daunting to the point that I find myself wondering if I will be able to pull this up. The potential of a steep mental and physical toll keeps me up at night but really, what I worry about the most is the financial risk.

Luckily (some will say foolishly), it only takes me a second of stepping into any of our classes and seeing all of you beautiful dancers enjoying your movement, laughing until your bellies hurt and for an instant, not worrying about the outside world to remind me that I am not alone and allows me to keep on going.

We are still in the process of renovating what used to be a beauty school into our home hoping for it to be ready by early December. It will have one main studio where most of the classes will take place and a smaller studio perfect for one on one time. Both spaces will be available for rentals and just like before, they will start at $20/hr for all our community of artists and their self-funded projects. Additionally, I've always wanted to have a lobby area that will function as a co-working space (with free coffee/tea of course), cuz those grants ain't gonna write themselves and it's always nice to have emotional support from those who understand the struggle.

This week I am dedicating my whole self to figuring out the how, when and where of sprung floors, mirrors & barres. I already know the price point will likely be high, this is why I've created a GoFundme campaign to cover at least a small part of it. If you have the means, please consider making a donation however small. Purchasing classes and class cards are still the best way to support us and spreading the word is very much appreciated at all times.

Let it be known, that this will not be the last time we move. It is my goal to see the day our community grows so big and the need to provide space grows so great that we'll have to move to a bigger space, heck, buy a whole building if we can! At the risk of sounding cheesy, a thousand-mile journey begins with a single step and a dream becomes a goal when action is taken.

With much love and gratitude,

Sarahí Cárdenas
