We are thrilled to introduce the five artists in our Emerging Practice Cohort (EPC) program 2026/2027.
Over the course of the next eight months, these facilitators will each teach a 4-week series of classes, sharing their unique creative practices and teaching voices with our community. They will also attend each other's classes, exchange feedback, and train together—building a collective practice of embodied learning that extends far beyond their own teaching. The program is supported by Amelia Erhardt, who will mentor the facilitators by providing experienced guidance as each facilitator develops their voice. This mentorship runs alongside the peer feedback and collective training, making the program about something larger than a teaching slot.
Each facilitator has been selected for their curiosity, their commitment to growth, and their desire to develop a new teaching or facilitation practice. We invite you to come support them, take their classes, and be part of this exciting journey.
WHY TAKE CLASS WITH OUR EPC FACILITATORS?
There is something specific about being in a room with someone who is actively shaping their teaching practice. These five facilitators are doing exactly that—they are exploring how they want to communicate through movement, how they want to structure a class, and what kind of energy they want to hold. You get to be part of that exploration. When you show up, you are not just taking class. You are contributing to a shared process of discovery.
By attending Emerging Practice Cohort classes, you also become part of a larger community of invested, generous, and curious dancers. Your presence supports the next generation of teachers and creative facilitators in Toronto. Plus, all EPC classes are offered at an accessible sliding scale, making it easy to train regularly and try something new.
HOW TO BOOK EPC CLASSES
All Emerging Practice Cohort classes take place on Fridays 12:30PM to 2:00PM at The Fifth Dance, located at 366 Adelaide Street East.
Classes are open to everyone. You can book your spot via Momence and take advantage of the sliding scale rate $10-$30, making the EPC classes the most affordable drop-in classes in Toronto.
This program is built on the belief that teaching is a practice—one that is deepened through experience, trial and error, observation, feedback and shared experiences. Our facilitators are the face of The Fifth and represent the spirit of our community: growth, bravery, and connection.
We are so proud of this cohort and cannot wait to see what they facilitate over the next eight months. We encourage you to come to their classes, offer your energy, and be part of this year’s Emerging Practice Cohort at The Fifth Dance.

Clara Chemtov is a Montreal-raised and Toronto-based dance artist and sound designer with a passion for spunky and theatrical creation. Since completing their BFA in Dance at York University, they have been exploring themes of queerness, humanity, and relationships through an absurdist lens. Their most recent works have been centred around “otherness”, researching dehumanization through movement and character work. Clara has been fortunate to work with notable choreographers including Alyssa Martin, Syreeta Hector, Jane-Alison McKinney, and Kyra Jean Green. When they aren’t busy creating, they can be found reading fantasy novels, drinking bubble tea, and inventing new soups.

Alyssa Scocco is a Toronto-born dance artist, choreographer, and educator with extensive training in classical ballet and contemporary dance. She began her training at Danzarts Toronto before studying for three years at Canada’s National Ballet School. She later trained at Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts while performing with ACE Dance Theatre’s Junior Company, where she danced for four years. In the summer of 2023, she joined Ballet Jörgen’s Junior Company. During her competitive training, Alyssa was named 2nd Runner-Up in Contemporary and placed in the Top 12 in Classical Ballet at Youth America Grand Prix Toronto.
Alyssa is currently a dancer and choreographer with the University of Toronto Varsity Dance Team, where she continues to develop her choreographic voice alongside her performance practice. Her choreographic interests centre on emotional specificity and narrative, drawing on the precision and physicality of her ballet training while exploring the freedom and individuality of contemporary movement.
As a teacher, Alyssa is interested in the space between discipline and passion. She values rigorous technical training not as an end in itself, but as a foundation that allows dancers to make more intentional, expressive, and individual artistic choices. Through teaching and choreography, she hopes to create environments that challenge dancers while encouraging agency and a genuinely curious approach to movement. -

She has also worked as a composer/performer for dance:made in canada - inTO focus, Battery Dance Festival, SQx Dance, Expect Theatre’s Beats + Intentions, Dust and Soul Dance Projects, and SummerWorks Performance Festival.
Christina is the creator of Litt Dance Collective, which aims to meld musical and choreographic research while exploring elements of comedy. As an arts educator, she teaches piano lessons and is the ballet/creative movement instructor at the Citadel Dance Program. Through her passion for community dance, Christina also teaches seniors at Dancing with Parkinson’s. She is known for her positivity and zest for life and strives to focus on mind and body wellness in all her practices, while exploring the connectivity of music, movement, and language, and their impact on one another. -
