Rodney Diverlus (they/them) is a Haitian-Canadian multi-hyphenate artmaker whose work spans different realms, including dance, theatre, film, media, literature, installation, and protest. Described by the Toronto Star as "one of Toronto's fastest rising dance talents”, their work presents, at times, flaunts emergent representations of blackness, queerness, and diasporic life and freedom. Rodney has created and presented original works for the Toronto Dance Theatre, Art Gallery of Ontario, SummerWorks Festival, Irie Music Festival, Toronto Metropolitan University, Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre, Tableau d’Hôte Theatre, and the Annual Alberta Dance Festival. They danced 4 seasons with Decidedly Jazz Danceworks and have performed for Peter Hinton/Denise Clarke [Canadian Opera Company], Natasha Powell [Holla Jazz], Noémi LaFrance [Bentway], Canadian Stage, and Stratford Festival, to name a few.
During this workshop participants will explore the roots of Jazz, and its connections to musicality, groove, and to Afro-diasporic cultural practices.
