Hypermobility or extreme flexibility can be a positive and a negative for a dancer. Yes, that flexibility will help you execute the gorgeous movements but what happens when an over-extended knee joint gets injured?

That’s where Pilates can help you. Working with resistance-based equipment and focusing on posture and biomechanics, this workshop discusses how Pilates will help support a dancer’s hypermobile joints.

About Robyn

Robyn hails from Nova Scotia and has called Toronto home for almost 20 years.

She completed her Pilates training through The Pilates Process (a Pilates program with roots in physiotherapy) and over the last 10+ years has completed certifications in Functional Anatomy for Movement and Injury (Mount Sinai Hospital, NYC) and chronic pain management (Polestar Pilates). She is also certified in the Pink Ribbon Program (a physical rehab program designed for people recovering from breast cancer), Level One Pilates for Neurological Conditions, Level One Movement for Trauma, TRX, and holds certifications in Prenatal and postpartum work and certifications in programs focusing on Pelvic Health and Pelvic Floor function.

Robyn now mentors new Pilates instructors through her studio, Rebalance Pilates. She is passionate about movement and truly believes in its ability to heal the body.

 

About Kat

Kat’s passion for feel-good movement runs deep. To complement her love for movement, she holds a certification in Mat Pilates Instruction, Pre and Postnatal Pilates, and has a background in injury and trauma informed instruction. Kat is mindful of working with people where they are at in their movement journey and works to ensure that each client leaves feeling accomplished, proud, and most importantly, good! Kat’s teaching approach balances the classical Pilates principles with creativity and thoughtfulness for each client's individual needs.
