This class sits somewhere at the intersection of musical theatre and pop star performances. A new kind of technique class aimed at pre-professional and professional dancers looking to expand their theatrical offerings to include singing (as a means to dip into a more theatrically heightened contemporary performance). We will learn the lyrics to a pop song, practice singing it as a small choir and then match our singing to contemporary dance choreography. This class is inspired by methods used by Rock Bottom Movement. You do not need to be a singer, in fact, it’s better if you’re not!

About Alyssa Martin
Alyssa Martin is a choreographer and director. She’s the founder of Rock Bottom Movement; a collective of offbeat dance artists working on helping to figure out what absurd dance theatre can be. She has worked in residence at art centres including the Banff Centre, Canadian Stage and The Stratford Festival LAB. Outside of the dance world she collaborates on projects in theatre, film, musical theatre and opera. Like so many of us, since the pandemic, she has taken a dive into the fun brainteaser of capturing dance on film and has created Bin Chicken a full length commission for Toronto Dance Theatre and DinoLand a full length work for the dance program at X University. Her first live shows back included I Am William at the Stratford Festival and STAR SEED with Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre in 2021.
