In-Studio | Beginner Ballet Series II with Nicole Prefontaine

Beginner Ballet Series II is a direct continuation of Series I and is designed for dancers who have already established foundational ballet technique and are ready to move forward with greater confidence and clarity. This series builds on the principles introduced in Series I while increasing pace, coordination, and technical demand, with the goal of preparing dancers for a transition toward more intermediate-level training.

Classes move more efficiently through familiar structures, allowing dancers to deepen their understanding of alignment, strength, and musicality while working with longer combinations and more complex center work. Series II emphasizes continuity, precision, and stamina, supporting dancers as they refine their technique and expand their movement range in a supportive, focused environment.

Course Details:

  • Duration: 8 weeks

  • Level: Beginner / Beginner-Intermediate

  • Completion of Beginner Ballet Series I or equivalent experience is recommended

Course Content:

  • Alignment: Refine and maintain proper alignment through increasingly complex movement sequences

  • Stretching & Strengthening: Develop deeper muscular strength and endurance required for sustained ballet work and flexibility to support a greater range of motion and technical clarity

  • Full barre: Expand barre work with increased tempo, longer combinations, and greater attention to detail

  • Center work: Progress center practice with added complexity, directional changes, and stamina demands while dancers explore combinations that develop precision and musicality

Please note that teachers of all series classes are encouraged to run their classes as progressive courses, regardless of the number of students dropping in.

About Nicole

Nicole Prefontaine is a ballet dancer and educator with extensive training in both classical and contemporary dance forms. She completed the Teacher Training Program at Canada's National Ballet School, where she studied R.A.D., Cecchetti, N.B.S. Curriculum, music, anatomy, and conditioning. A former scholarship student at the San Francisco Ballet School, she performed in ballets such as George Balanchine’s Serenade, Kenneth Macmillan’s Soiree Musicale, and Helgi Tomasson’s Handel Celebrations.

Her short-term training includes participation in prestigious programs like the Orsolina 28 Juliano Nunes Creation Week in Italy, the Paris Opera Ballet Cross Threads Summer Program, Pro Arte Danza in Toronto, and workshops with renowned companies such as American Ballet Theatre and Forsythe Technologies. Nicole has also choreographed multiple contemporary solos for young dancers participating in the Youth America Grand Prix. She currently teaches at Canada's National Ballet School, where she shares her expertise and passion for dance with the Toronto dance community.
