Move, express, touch the sky, and move like water! Enjoy this integrated contemporary dance class that utilizes horton technique, floorwork, acro, martial arts, and ballet. Class will include movement in centre, traveling across the floor, and conclude with either a short choreography or more dynamic movement, whilst encouraging expression and individuality.

Alignment: Learn the proper body alignment and posture required for contemporary dance.
Stretching: Engage in stretching exercises to improve flexibility and prepare the body for contemporary dance movements.
Strengthening: Build strength in the muscles used in contemporary dance through targeted exercises.
Balance: Develop balance and stability through specific contemporary dance exercises.
Floor work: Practice contemporary dance movements and exercises on the floor to improve technique and body awareness.
Center work: Progress to the center of the studio to practice contemporary dance movements without the support of the floor or barre.
Movement: Explore different contemporary dance movements and combinations to develop coordination and musicality.
Basic terminology: Familiarize yourself with the essential contemporary dance terminology used in class.

Sze-Yang Ade-Lam is a queer asian nonbinary dancer, choreographer, martial artist, actor, advocate, and community developer. Sze-Yang shares stories for love, liberation, representation & empowerment, as an independent artist, and as part of ILL NANA/DiverseCity Dance Company. Since 2011 Sze-Yang has created more accessible affirming dance education and performance opportunities for QT2SBIPOC’s and their adjacent communities, advocated for change in the arts, and is the force behind the Dora Mavor Moore Awards shift to gender neutral categories.
