Contemporary and Creation Workshop with Catarina Carvalho

The Workshop will offer a dynamic and creative exploration of movement. Starting by focusing on the alignment, articulation and efficiency of the moving body in space, using the center as a starting point. Catarina will draw from her own style sharing movement phrases giving great emphasis on direction, fluidity of movements, precision, dynamic changes, attention to the space inside and outside the body. We will then explore some choreographic prompts in various forms for everyone to practice and create their own movement phrases.

About Catarina

Catarina Carvalho is a London based dance artist. Born in Lisbon, Catarina trained at École Supérieure de Danse de Cannes Rosella Hightower in France with a scholarship from the Ambrosoli Foundation (Zürich). Catarina’s career began at Ballet de L’Ópera National du Rhin, experiencing a broad range of the company’s repertoire under the direction of Bertrand D’At. Catarina danced for Company Wayne McGregor for 10 years and has toured in various company productions around the world. During this time Catarina was also Rehearsal Assistant and assisted Wayne McGregor in several projects. Catarina continues to collaborate with Studio Wayne McGregor as a Stager. In 2021, Catarina restaged EDEN | EDEN for the Czech National Ballet and, in 2022 PreSentient for the Royal Ballet School. Most recently as a freelance artist Catarina has performed in Shobana Jeyasingh Dance's productions Contagion and Staging Schiele, and with Tânia Carvalho Company in Onironauta and Versa-Vice. Catarina often guest teaches for a number of vocational schools and colleges in the UK and Europe. In 2020, Catarina developed Room to Room with collaborator Ana Maria Lucaciu, a project in response to the pandemic connecting artists all over the world. Catarina’s choreographic work has been presented in a wide range of settings.
